A Weava alternative that keeps your highlights.
If Weava stopped saving your highlights, or Super Simple Highlighter lost your pages, here is the honest comparison. Highlight Keep stores everything in your own browser, needs no account, and costs nothing or $12 once — never a subscription.

About Weava
Weava was a good research highlighter, and many people paid for it. Its Chrome listing has not been updated since February 2024, and recent reviews say the same things: highlights are logged but no longer restored on the page, PDF highlighting fails, and Premium subscribers could not find a way to cancel and got no answer from support. If that is you, export your Weava collections to a document before you cancel or delete the account — there is no importer from Weava into Highlight Keep (or into anything else, as far as we know), so a Word or Google Docs export is the copy you keep.
About Super Simple Highlighter
Super Simple Highlighter is free, local and, as the name says, simple — a fair choice if that is all you need. The gaps its users report are the ones we built around: saved pages that vanish from the vault, highlights that slide off the text, no notes, no search. Highlight Keep anchors each highlight to the surrounding words and falls back to position only if the text itself has gone, keeps a searchable library, and can back the whole thing up to a file.
What Highlight Keep does not do
- No highlighting of PDFs stored on your own disk. PDFs on the web work since 0.2.0 (click Highlight this PDF in the popup); local files are not readable by the extension.
- No sync server. Your highlights stay in the browser profile you made them in; the backup file is how you move them to another machine.
- Like Super Simple Highlighter, it asks once per site before it runs there. That is what keeps it from reading pages you never asked it to.
